This small art quilt wall hanging is patterned after a quilt by the fabulous Japanese artist, designer and author Yoko Saito. I'm drawn to her beautiful taupe palette... and I collected many of her imported Japanese fabrics to make this quilt / wall hanging.
"Still Life" is 100% hand applique, and is hand quilted. Yes - this is all hand work! Edge-turn applique, hand embroidery and micro rick-rack. It took me one year to finish this. The basket is hand-woven, and the border is a lattice work that is also woven and hand-appliqued.
It is difficult to communicate the subtlety of the colors and detail with a low-resolution web photograph... but in person these colors are really beautiful and because they are so limited, I believe that the eye focuses on the design and the stitching. I've attached the finished quilt to a hand-painted canvas. It makes a perfect wall hanging.
